Bell Hotel Sandwich
Classic English pub-hotel with genuine period bones. Not a boutique-hotel-by-numbers — more like a well-run inn that's had proper money spent on it. River views, four-poster beds in the top rooms, and real ales on tap set the tone.

Why It Matters
A Tablet Hotels member and one of the only proper hotels actually in central Sandwich. The Grade II listed building includes a double-height Regency Room with a Minstrels' Gallery — formerly the town's Assembly Room. The quayside location puts you steps from the medieval Barbican and Toll Bridge.
The Bell is a Grade II listed Edwardian pub-hotel parked right on the River Stour quayside in Sandwich — one of England's original Cinque Port towns and, reputedly, the most complete medieval town in the country. Owned by Shepherd Neame (Britain's oldest brewer), it has been welcoming guests since Tudor times, and the current building retains the good stuff: large fireplaces, high ceilings, Georgian sash windows, and a Regency Room that once served as the town's Assembly Room. The renovation has added proper comfort to all that character — 37 en-suite rooms, a decent à la carte restaurant, and a bar stocked with Kentish ales.
