Belden House & Mews
Historic-meets-modernist boutique hotel with serious design credentials. The House is Colonial Revival with preserved Victorian details; the Mews is clean-lined mid-century. Champalimaud Design tied it together with layered, bold textiles, saturated color, and a residential feel. Not a stuffy historic inn — more like staying in a beautifully curated private home.
The Oysters & Tiny Tinis happy hour (Mon–Thu, 4:30–6pm) is $2 oysters and $8 martinis — great value at this price tier.
Why It Matters
Awarded 1 MICHELIN Key in 2025 and named to Travel + Leisure's It List 2026. Owned by the team behind Troutbeck (Amenia, NY), which holds its own MICHELIN Key. It's the only full-service hotel in Litchfield's historic center, a town that's on the National Register of Historic Places. The building itself was a nursing home for decades before a meticulous 2022–2025 restoration.
Belden House & Mews is a 31-room boutique hotel that brings full-service hospitality back to the center of Litchfield, Connecticut — the town's first high-street hotel in over a century. The 3-acre estate spans three restored historic buildings: an 1888 Queen Anne mansion, a 1959 modernist Mews, and the 1891 Litchfield Firehouse. Champalimaud Design handled interiors throughout, threading together stained glass windows, parquet floors, and tiled working fireplaces in the House with grasscloth walls, Ian Ingersoll cubic four-poster beds, and Bauhaus-inspired seating in the Mews.
