Bela Vista Hotel & Spa
Heritage boutique with a modern design overlay. Portuguese azulejo tiles and painted ceilings in the Palacete sit alongside bold contemporary furniture. Adults-only, romantic, quiet — think slow lunches and sundowners, not poolside DJs and activity desks. Genuinely intimate at 38 rooms.

Why It Matters
The original Algarve hotel (opened 1934, mansion built 1918), a Relais & Châteaux member, and home to Chef João Oliveira's 1 Michelin star Vista Restaurant — awarded every year since 2017. Recognized by CNN as one of 20 of Europe's Most Beautiful Hotels. The building famously served as a spy meeting point during WWII and its guestbook includes multiple European royals and heads of state.
A 1918 clifftop mansion turned 5-star boutique hotel perched above Praia da Rocha — the first hotel ever to open in the Algarve. Three buildings (the historic Palacete, the sea-facing Casa Azul, and the garden-oriented Casa Jardim) hold 38 individually designed rooms. It's famous for its Michelin-starred Vista Restaurant and as a counter-point to the slab-resorts crowding the strip on either side.
