Design Hotel
Art Deco-inflected boutique eclecticism. Bold color palettes, velvet sofas, curated artwork, and details that feel more London or New York than Central European. Intimate and design-forward without being precious about it.
Ask for a large room on an upper floor at the back of the building, away from the elevator — these are the quietest and generally the most spacious. Room sizes within the same category can vary considerably.
Why It Matters
Established by the Main Square Hospitality Group (behind over 11 Michelin- and Gault & Millau-recognized restaurants in Kraków), it is the only hotel in its category with a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant on site. The location — directly on the Royal Route, steps from Wawel Castle — is genuinely hard to beat. Small (around 26 rooms), so it feels personal.
On Krakow's Royal Route (ul. Grodzka), Balthazar sits inside a 19th-century townhouse built atop 16th-century foundations, opposite St. Martin's Church and a five-minute walk from Wawel Castle. The exterior is deliberately understated — you could walk right past it. Step inside and the lobby hits you with bird-and-flower ceiling murals by a local artist, a black-and-white marble floor, a lime-green velvet sofa, and books stacked on metal shelves. Guest rooms come in saturated royal blue, mint green, or gold, and every one is individually designed. The on-site Fiorentina restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and is regarded as one of the most romantic dining rooms in the city.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Roundtrip airport shuttle to/from John Paul II International Airport available at surcharge. Can also arrange private transfers for day trips to sites like Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The hotel can arrange bicycle tours of the city and surrounding area. Grodzka street is pedestrianized, making the area very cycle-friendly.
Concierge team arranges personalized excursions, private transfers, restaurant bookings, and general city orientation. Staff are notably well-regarded for going above and beyond — one review cited them reorganizing an Auschwitz tour itinerary after a flight delay with virtually no notice.
The hotel can arrange a guided golf buggy tour of Kraków Old Town, typically on short notice. Guests have reported this being set up in under 10 minutes at checkout. Good option for a final-morning spin before a flight.
