Baglio Oneto dei Principi di San Lorenzo - Luxury Wine Resort
Aristocratic Sicilian agriturismo meets genuine 5-star comfort. Old stone walls, hand-worked wrought iron, hand-painted ceramics, wooden beam ceilings — it all feels authentically rooted rather than staged. Family-run warmth cuts through the formality. Wine is the real organizing principle here.
Book the Tower Suite for the Terrace of Venus sunset aperitivo — it faces directly toward the Egadi Islands and is the best seat in the house at dusk.
Why It Matters
One of the rare luxury properties in western Sicily that owns its own working winery and still operates under the original noble family's ownership. The 18th-century defense tower — now the property's top suite — offers a 360-degree panorama from Capo Boeo (westernmost tip of Sicily) all the way to Erice. Recognized by Condé Nast Johansens, Traveller Made, and Select Hotels & Resorts.
Baglio Oneto is a 5-star luxury wine resort built into an 18th-century fortified manor that still belongs to the Palmeri Oneto family — the same noble lineage that has been making Marsala wine here for generations. Set on a hill 150 meters above sea level in western Sicily, the views stretch from the Egadi Islands and Mozia to Mount Erice. The property produces nine of its own wines, presses its own olive oil, and the saltwater infinity pool suspended above the vineyards is genuinely special.

35,000 sqm of estate grounds with ancient olive trees, mulberries, almond, prickly pears, citrus. The property is notable for birdwatching (calandra larks, falcons, wild pigeons) and wildlife spotting (foxes, rabbits, porcupines, tortoises).
The most recommended activity on the property. A guided tour through the estate's historic aging cellar, tasting across the 9 wine labels produced by the Oneto family — including whites (Dara Inzolia, Quintessenza Zibibbo, Imaginari Grillo, Principe Carmelo), reds (Dara Nero d'Avola, Nero d'Avola Barrique, Sabina Merlot), and liqueurs (Odinetto Zibibbo Passito and the flagship Marsala DOC Virgin Reserve). Olive oil tasting included.
The Stagnone nature reserve a few kilometers from the resort is one of Italy's top kitesurfing spots — the underwater Neptune Grass calms wave height and the Marsala winds are consistent. The resort can help arrange access.
Every evening on the panoramic Terrace of Venus: wines, beers, estate Marsala-cocktail specials, with the sea, Egadi Islands, and Stagnone Nature Reserve spread out below.
