Why It Matters
Genuine 1950s architecture housing authentic mid-century designer furniture (Eames, Noguchi, Nelson), one of Beverly Hills' most recognizable hourglass pools, and a long-standing Hollywood history — Marilyn Monroe lived here, as did Desi Arnaz. Now a member of Design Hotels and participating in Marriott Bonvoy. One of the few boutique hotels in Beverly Hills that isn't trying to out-luxury the big chains.
Once the Beverly Carlton (and two neighboring apartment buildings), the Avalon opened in its current form in 1999 as an 84-room mid-century boutique hotel in Beverly Hills. The bones are genuinely 1950s — blocky blue facade, Eames chairs, Noguchi tables, Nelson lamps — and the centerpiece is a hourglass/boomerang-shaped pool that former residents like Marilyn Monroe probably swam in. Rooms are across three separate buildings (Olympic, Canon, and Beverly), which means some guests walk through an alleyway to reach their room. That's part of the charm. It's quieter than you'd expect for Beverly Hills, and cheaper too.

Open-plan suite with a seating alcove, spacious desk, Julep carpet, marble bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Many offer pool-view balconies. In the Olympic Building. Fits a business traveler who needs to spread out but doesn't need a separate bedroom. ADA-accessible options available.
KingOne Bedroom Suite
Separate living and bedroom layout in the Olympic Building. Features a spacious desk, dining table, Julep carpet, statuary white and ming green marble bathroom, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Good for longer stays or anyone who needs a proper living room. ADA-accessible options available.
KingPenthouse
Takes up the entire top floor of the Beverly Building. 850 sq ft indoors plus a rooftop deck. Two full bathrooms, a king bedroom, separate living room with Murphy bed and sofa, 65-inch TV, Peloton bike, and a private balcony with the hotel's own hot sauna (190°F) and cold plunge for contrast therapy. Palm tree views from every angle. This is as close as Beverly Hills gets to a private residence.

Open-plan room with a kitchenette, seating alcove, bespoke furnishings, and a marble bathroom. Located in the Canon Building — a quieter, more residential-feeling structure on a secluded side street. First-floor studios come with private outdoor patios. ADA-accessible options available.
