Why It Matters
The only hotel in Alpe d'Huez with true ski-in/ski-out access directly to the main gondola network, plus a Michelin-listed restaurant and Nuxe spa under one roof.
Au Chamois d'Or is a 5-star ski-in/ski-out chalet-hotel at the top of Alpe d'Huez — the only hotel in the resort with direct on-foot access to the main ski lifts (50 metres away) and the ESF ski school (100 metres away). The building is a proper mountain chalet: warm wood panelling, a roaring fireplace in the bar, and a large south-facing terrace perfect for post-ski sun. It joined the Les Étincelles Collection in 2023. With 42 rooms and 5 suites, it's intimate enough to feel personal but fully equipped, with a Nuxe spa, heated indoor pool, and a restaurant overseen by Chef Gaël Bogourou.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The ESF Alpe d'Huez ski school is 100 metres from the hotel. The hotel team will book lessons for all ages and levels including guided off-piste and group sessions.
Skip the resort queue. The hotel team can arrange ski passes and equipment rental directly on-site. Discounts for families available — ask at reception.
Step out the hotel door and you're on the slopes. The main ski lifts are 50 metres away — the hotel is the only one in Alpe d'Huez with this direct access. The Grand Domaine ski area has 250km of runs and 135 marked pistes from beginner to expert. The Sarenne black run at 16km is the world's longest.
Table tennis, table football, board games, and a library. Two dedicated children's playrooms in the hotel. Good for rainy days or post-ski downtime.
In summer the resort transforms into a hiking destination. Trails connect to deep mountain lakes, high-altitude meadows, and panoramic ridgelines above 3,000m. Lifts continue to operate in summer, giving easy access to the high terrain.
A 120-metre ice cave gallery carved into the mountain near Alpe d'Huez, featuring themed ice sculptures — an unusual off-slope activity in winter.
Alpe d'Huez hosts the Megavalanche — one of the world's largest enduro MTB events, running since 1995. The resort has dedicated MTB trails in summer.
The iconic 21 numbered hairpin bends of the Alpe d'Huez climb are within walking distance. In summer, cyclists ride the same roads used in the Tour de France. The 2026 Tour de France will pass through Alpe d'Huez.
