Bristol
Industrial-bohemian with a local art focus. Eclectic vintage furniture, upcycled pieces, limited-edition art prints, and a relaxed, unstuffy atmosphere. Think Banksy's Bristol filtered through a boutique hotel sensibility.
Book the Lookout if you want the most dramatic room — the private roof terrace with 180-degree views is the standout feature in the hotel
Why It Matters
Holds a Michelin One Key award (2025) across all five Artist Residence properties. The Bristol outpost is notable for being built almost entirely around local provenance — art, food, toiletries and drinks all sourced from the city and region. The Boot Factory is open to non-guests and has become a proper neighbourhood fixture.
A Grade I listed Georgian townhouse and a former boot factory, side by side on Portland Square in Bristol's creative St Pauls neighbourhood. Artist Residence Bristol is the largest in the group's five-hotel collection, with 23 individually designed rooms that lean into the building's industrial bones: exposed brick, original cornicing, and arched windows sit alongside commissioned works by local artists — one contributor as young as eight. The Boot Factory bar and restaurant downstairs doubles as a genuine neighbourhood hangout, and the whole place has the feel of a very well-curated friend's house rather than a hotel.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A sun-trap patio at the rear of the Boot Factory that comes into its own in warmer months. Open for outdoor drinks and dining in season.
The hotel is a functioning gallery of commissioned works by Bristol artists — some as young as eight, including members of staff. Guests can explore the collection throughout all floors and public spaces.
The Library is a games room with a ping pong table, cosy seating and its own private bar. Available to guests throughout the day; in the evenings it can be used for quieter activities when not privately hired.
The Blue Room in the lower ground floor is a private events space with its own bar, ceiling-mounted projector and private entrance. Suitable for birthdays, meetings, creative sessions and larger parties. The Library also works for smaller gatherings.
