A century-old office building on Rua Áurea — one of Lisbon's grandest downtown streets — has been turned into a five-star boutique hotel that takes design very seriously. Architect Luís Rebelo de Andrade spent years restoring the Beaux Arts facade and refitting the interiors almost exclusively with furniture, lighting, and objects from Dutch design house Moooi. The result is bold: saturated primary colors in every room, Smeg kettles on the desks, clawfoot tubs in select bathrooms, Bulgari products throughout. Restaurant Áurea sits at lobby level and serves inventive takes on Portuguese classics. The hotel holds a 2025 Michelin Key and was named Portugal's Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards.
