Why It Matters
One of very few upscale hotels actually inside the Square Mile rather than west of it. The building dates to 1884 and was designed by the same architects behind the Houses of Parliament. The Masonic Temple — a preserved Victorian Freemasons' lodge inside the hotel — is genuinely remarkable. The Andaz Design Suite (Suite 104) was created by the late Sir Terence Conran and features a Savoir bed and original Eames and Karuselli chairs.

The standout room in the hotel — 80 sq m designed by the late Sir Terence Conran. The king bedroom and expansive lounge are filled with Eames and Karuselli chairs, a Savoir bed (one of the best you can sleep in), and a replica of the coffee table Conran designed for his own home. The bathroom is oversized with both walk-in shower and fast-fill bathtub. A portion of the nightly rate (30%) supports the RED AIDS charity.
