New York Palace Budapest
Opulent Belle Époque palace hotel with Italian Renaissance interiors — think gilded stucco columns, ceiling frescoes, crystal chandeliers, and marble everywhere. Rooms lean warm and classic: cream palettes, bold lines, Belle Époque chandeliers. It's grand without being stuffy, and the building genuinely earns every ounce of its reputation.
Book breakfast in the New York Café directly — non-guests queue outside daily, but hotel guests get priority seating inside
Why It Matters
The New York Café alone makes this hotel a landmark. Opened in 1894 and reputedly the world's most beautiful café, it draws enormous crowds of non-guests every day — yet hotel guests get priority seating for breakfast. The palace itself is a protected Hungarian monument, meaning Anantara couldn't gut the interiors even if they wanted to, which is very much a good thing.
A Belle Époque palace built in 1894 as the European headquarters of the New York Life Insurance Company, this is one of Budapest's most iconic buildings. The marble façade, clock tower, ornate carvings, ceiling frescoes, and Murano chandeliers are all original — painstakingly restored after an €80 million renovation and reopened as a luxury hotel in 2007. Acquired by Anantara in 2020, the hotel's 185 rooms and suites combine that heritage grandeur with contemporary comforts. But the real reason people come? The New York Café on the ground floor, which has been drawing artists and writers since 1894 and is routinely called the most beautiful café in the world.
