Why It Matters

Part of the rising Ginto Hotels collection, which has developed a consistent identity across chic French neighborhood hotels. The on-site restaurant Louison is a genuine draw — created by The Small Group (the team behind La Mercerie), it pulls in locals as much as guests, which is the mark of a hotel restaurant actually worth eating at.

Hôtel Amista is the reborn version of the former Hôtel Saint-Louis, a 19th-century building in Marseille's Noailles district that Ginto Hotels has completely overhauled. The facade still carries its original lion heads, gargoyles, and wrought-iron balconies — inside, designer Dorothée Delaye has filled 24 rooms with vintage mirrors, foraged travel objects, and Élitis fabrics. The result is a place that feels more like someone's very stylish apartment than a hotel.
