Why It Matters
The hotel building itself is the draw: the Palais Adelebsen is the only intact Baroque aristocratic manor from Celle's 17th-century court period. It was saved from demolition in 1969 by the Earl of Hardenberg and opened as a hotel in 1970. The on-site Italian restaurant has 16 Gault & Millau points and 7 Gusto pans — serious recognition for a town this size.
A 1670 Baroque palace — the last of Celle's aristocratic manor houses still standing in its entirety — converted into a 5-star hotel in 1970 and part of the Althoff Collection since 2005. Sixty-two rooms spread across the historic Palais Adelebsen and a newer annex, all done up in warm earth tones and light oak furniture with country-house sensibility. The Italian restaurant Taverna & Trattoria Palio punches well above the town's weight, and the quiet courtyard garden is one of those spots you end up spending an unplanned afternoon in.

Deluxe Suite
High-quality country-house style suite suited to short breaks or wellness weekends. Note: the hotel's website states the Deluxe Suite is earmarked for renovation in the coming period — worth confirming current status at booking.
Executive Double Room
Spacious rooms renovated in 2015 with luxurious bathrooms and a walk-in closet — a step up in space and finish from the Deluxe. Filigree light-oak furniture with bronze applications. Note: no air conditioning in this category.

Superior Double Room in the Refugium
Rooms in the historic wing — the original Palais Adelebsen structure. Country-style with a heavier sense of history; the original charmed old-world aesthetic that the renovated rooms trade for contemporary comfort. Pick these if you want the atmosphere.

Stylish rooms with fine wood furniture and solid materials; most overlook the beautifully landscaped courtyard terrace. Part of the recently renovated section in warm earth tones with light oak wood.
Superior Suite
Located in the 'Separee' of the Palais, this suite offers seclusion and exclusivity. Separate living and sleeping area for comfortable lounging. One of the more coveted suite positions in the house.
