Aethos Ericeira sits on top of a 40-metre cliff inside a protected nature reserve, gazing west over the Atlantic. A former farmhouse transformed by Portuguese architect Luís Pedra Silva and Spanish design studio Astet, the hotel has 50 rooms and suites done in pared-back Nordic tones — pale wood, muted textiles, stone and sand. It is a place for surfers and slow-travel types in equal measure: world-class breaks minutes away, a hammam and outdoor ocean-view sauna on site, and an all-day restaurant, Onda, pulling Silver Coast seafood and local farm produce.
