Absalon Hotel
Colorful, eclectic, and warm. Designers Guild interiors with bold stripes and patterned wallpapers — the opposite of cold Scandinavian minimalism. Strong sense of hygge: personal service, communal bar with board games, a sweeping staircase with a Little Mermaid replica at the base. Think boutique personality at a mid-range price.

Why It Matters
Third-generation, family-owned since 1938. Interior design done in direct collaboration with Designers Guild Creative Director Tricia Guild — unusual for a mid-range hotel. Green Key certified. The Concept24 program lets direct bookers keep their room a full 24 hours from check-in with no extra charge.
Absalon Hotel has been in the same family since 1938 — started by Karen Nedergaard's grandmother Erna Andersen with just 11 rooms, now run by the third generation with 161 rooms across a classic corner building in Vesterbro. But what really sets it apart from the sea of muted Scandinavian hotels is the interior: bold Designers Guild fabrics in Berry (purples and pinks) or Ocean (blues and greys), striped curtains, patterned wallpapers, and potted plants everywhere. This is a hotel that actively chose color. The location is genuinely excellent — a 5-minute walk to Copenhagen Central Station, a stone's throw from Tivoli, and right in the middle of Vesterbro, Copenhagen's most energetic neighborhood.
