50 Bowery
Industrial-chic boutique with strong Chinatown DNA. Spirited and social, without being precious about it. The art is real (including a permanent Museum of Chinese in America exhibit), the crowd is well-traveled, and the rooftop is genuinely one of downtown's better perches.

Why It Matters
First New York City property from the Joie de Vivre boutique brand. Combines a culturally rooted sense of place — permanent MOCA gallery, Chinese lucky-number nods baked into the architecture — with a rooftop bar that earns its reputation. Rooms are legitimately spacious for Manhattan, with floor-to-ceiling windows and oak floors throughout.
A 21-story glass tower that opened in 2017 as Joie de Vivre's first New York City hotel — now under the JdV by Hyatt umbrella. It stands on Manhattan's oldest street, right on the Chinatown/Lower East Side border, and the low-rise neighborhood around it means the views punch way above the hotel's modest height. The design is industrial-chic: concrete pillars, exposed brick, oak floors, and red doors throughout (a nod to Chinatown's lucky color). There's no fourth floor — another intentional cultural wink. The Crown rooftop bar on the 21st floor is the real draw, with sweeping sightlines over the Manhattan Bridge, SoHo, and Brooklyn.
