Bikini Berlin
Urban jungle — playful, design-forward, with a quirky irreverence. Think graffitied walls, stuffed primates, mosaic-tiled sauna, and Jungle rooms with hand-drawn wall art by Japanese artist Yoshi Sislay. It attracts young, design-conscious travelers, creative professionals, and the occasional family.
Book a Jungle room over an Urban room if you want the hammock and zoo view — it's worth the slight upcharge
Why It Matters
The combination of a world-class rooftop bar (Monkey Bar), a seriously good Middle Eastern restaurant (NENI), a free zoo-view sauna, and rooms with in-room hammocks overlooking actual zoo animals makes this one of the most characterful hotels in Berlin. The building itself — the 'Bikini Berlin' complex — is a 1950s Berlin icon.
A 149-room design hotel in West Berlin's Bikini Berlin complex — a 1950s high-rise block flanked by the Berlin Zoo on one side and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on the other. Designed by Werner Aisslinger, the whole place leans hard into an 'urban jungle' concept: think exposed concrete, warm wood, hanging toy monkeys, and hammocks in rooms that look directly into the zoo's ape and elephant enclosures. The Monkey Bar on the 10th floor is one of the best rooftop spots in the city, popular with guests and locals alike.
