You can't stay at Richelieu Rock — it's literally just an underwater pinnacle in the middle of the Andaman Sea. Your base will be either Khao Lak or Phuket, depending on which liveaboard operator you choose. Khao Lak sits closer to the Similan Islands and offers better value accommodation. Try Sarojin Resort if you want luxury, or Nangthong Bay Resort for mid-range comfort with dive shop connections. Phuket gives you more nightlife and restaurant options but adds travel time to reach Richelieu Rock. Most serious divers pick Khao Lak and book a 4-day liveaboard that hits Richelieu Rock on day two or three. The town has plenty of dive shops along Phetkasem Road — just make sure they're PADI certified and have recent Richelieu Rock experience.
